Instead, the insurance excess you choose will be secured by an imprint of your credit or debit card on the rental agreement at the time of hire. Bring the car back undamaged and full of fuel, and there’s no further charge. So no, we don’t ‘hold’ or ‘freeze’ any amount on your card.

We’re no longer part of a national franchise, but we can strongly recommend Pacific Auto Rentals in Tauranga and also New Plymouth Airport Rental Cars. In the South Island, we recommend Christchurch Car Hire.

New Zealand has only 3 toll roads, and they’re all in the North Island. There’s the Northern Gateway in Auckland, and Tauranga has Takatimu Drive and the Eastern Link. If you drive on any of these roads, you can easily pay your toll on the NZ Transport Agency website.

You must do this within 5 days of your journey. After that, a processing fee is added and, if you do nothing, a fine may be payable.

Please note: payment requests for overdue tolls, or fines, are sent to us as the vehicle owner. If you haven’t paid, we’ll simply match the journey date to your rental dates and charge your credit card, together with a processing fee.
