Wellington Car Hire
Lets leave the Kiwi jokes out of this page shall well? Wellington is the capital of the “land of the long white cloud”. Why on earth do they call it that? I don’t have a clue! Located on the south western tip of the North Island. Wellington hasn’t always been the capital. It replaced its northern sister Auckland soon after it settled in 1841. Interesting Fact! This makes it the most southern capital city in the world. I bet you didn’t know that
So how about consider visiting some time? Then you can tell your friends “I have visited the most southern capital city in the whole planet!”
In 2011, the Lonely Planet Best in Travel 2011 ranked Wellington 4th in its Top 10 Cities to Visit. Wellington was then marketed as the “coolest little capital in the world.”
Let me give you some of the reasons why Wellington deserved to be one of the best cities to visit:
Wellington streets are lined with a variety of architectural styles from the past 150 years! The oldest building in the city is the 1858 Colonial Cottage in Mount Cook. The city also has the Futuna Chapel in Karori which is the first bicultural building and is also considered as one of the most significant buildings in New Zealand!
Many iconic sculptures and structures are also scattered around the city. Three of the most prominent are the Bucket Fountain located in Cuba Street, the “Invisible City” by Anton Parsons on Lambton Quay, and the Zephyrometer by Phil Price. Among the three, the Zephyrometer was recently built.
Aside from the huge structures, did you know that four of Wellington’s restaurants have won the title New Zealand’s Best Restaurant in the last five years? If you go hungry after gawking at the beautiful city, there won’t be any problem because you’ll be enjoying excellent food in Wellington!
But you feel that you had enough of the urban atmosphere, have no fear! The Mount Victoria Lookout is easily accessible for you my dear. Have a pair of binoculars and see some of Wellington’s best views!
Tired but still want to have fun? Visit the Carter Observatory! See the planetarium and there you’ll realize how twinkling stars can make people merry.
And if in the mood to mingle with Wellington’s nightlife, be ready because Wellington’s nightspots such as the Motel, Library, and Duke Carvell’s Swan Lake Emporium will surely make you wanna stay longer in the city.
Now, isn’t it true that Wellington is the “coolest little capital in the world”?
